These UK lads could have done themselves a favour and chosen a different name. If you judge Wolf People by said name and not by music, the first word in their title may lead you to clump them into the clusterfuck of acts who, just like everyone else, thought they were being original when turning to the howling-at-the-moon creature for name inspiration. Wolfmother, Wolf and Cub, Wolf Parade, Aids Wolf, Wolf Eyes – need we go on.
However, before you dismissively toss them into the 'tight black jeans, must be a hipster' category, listen to Wolf People’s music. It’s actually quite good. While the quartet offers blatant throwbacks to the drug-fuelled haze of the 60s and 70s, their bluesy, psychedelic take is still irrefutably catchy. One could probably call them the ‘Tame Impala of the UK’ but then again, that’s too easy.
Wolf People recently became the first UK band to sign to Jagjaguwar (home of Bon Iver and Dinosaur Jr. amongst others), with plans to release their Tidings LP, a collection of recordings taken between 2005 and 2007, in February next year.
