If you’ve ever listened to Theo Parrish’s epic eight minutes’ worth of awesome that comes in the form of the track “Chemistry,” you may have found yourself thinking (amongst other things): “Who is that voice?”. Well, it’s Veto Money. Which also means it’s Stoney Rock, which also means it’s Black Spade. These are all the monikers of the St. Louis-based MC/vocalist/producer.
Black Spade goes in from a soulful angle, dragging his hip hop with a casual swagger through a syrupy film of R&B, lazy funk and the like. He’s a member of the excellent three-piece Hawthorne Headhunters, counts Platinum Pied Piper collaborator and vocalist Coultrain as his bestie, and kicks it with people like Dutch producer Nicolay and Detroit's finest, Waajeed. As they say, you can tell a lot about someone from the company they keep, so that’s a pretty good character reference right there.

We’re also into this song from his album To Serve With Love (but the video, not so much).
