The iconic Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was an icon, a musical genius and a troubled soul. His almost mutant-like physical alterations, accusations of child sexual abuse and erratic behaviour have made him laughable to a lot of the world but to others, his lost childhood and obvious identity crisis made him a tragic and lost little boy. He was neither here nor there and in so many ways other-worldly. As he said himself, "I just say I'm an alien from Mars."

Had a friend try to tell me this was the biggest tragedy of our lifetime. Bigger than the GFC. I automatically thought he should be sectioned to the nearest mental hospital, but then, after ready this article by a different kind of kook, I began to appreciate how deeply he affected millions around the world, and that their grief is completely legitimate, even if those who 'don't get it' just want to make jokes about it. http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/michael-jackson-embodied-our-own-feelings-of-inadequacy-20090629-d2fd.html I still think my mate is a frikken fruit loop. But at least now I respect his right to be one.

The whole thing's a bit of a head fuck really. Yes a musical genius, yes a massive influence on popular culture, yes his music will be enjoyed for decades to come, yes the pressures of early stardome and a prick of a father fucked him up, yes he had the emotional maturity of a 10 year old, yes he was a pedophile. As fucked as this sounds it would be so much "easier" to process if he was just a pedo. You automatically want to burn him at the stake and have him suffer for his messed up ways, yet you pity him for being a victim, yet his music meant so much to so many people. Fuck you Michael Jackson for your musical gifts to the world and fuck you for what you became. I guess you can mourn the loss of his musical creative energy and celebrate the loss of a sick soul.

Devil's advocate maybe- but James Brown was a CONVICTED wife beater and a musical genius but nobody calls him psycho or a sick soul or a wacko. MJ was never convicted (in fact his accuser since said that he lied) but was obviously a sick puppy. The only real symptom of his mental state we know for a fact is that he ruined himself physically which shows his sad self loathing.

Fuck, I've never been so thoughtful!

I don't think any of us have. Fuck you MJ for making us navel gaze! Or should that be bless you? ARRGHHH!!

Damn you mb! Why'd you have to bring James into this? You've got a point though. I'm starting to think that the gene that makes you an innovative genius is also the prick gene.

I think the only conclusion to draw is, you dont have to be a good person to be a good musician. How many thousands of examples do you need? Buet what I want to know is: What happened? He was soooo FINE! Look at how friggin' fine he WAS and then look at what he became! Gives me the heebies.

Who here can say they have the insight to judge a soul? sure there was something rotten in denmark, but you can't ever see the whole truth when you look through the eyes of the media. All you can do is say thankyou for music and admit you will never understand him.

We should have our own tv show, like The View. Fuck we're smart.

Wow Freek, what an article :O I'm quite welled with emotion on this overcast Thursday morning now. I had never seen MJ from that perspective at all. I think he was incredible and I always bring up the point he wasn't actually convicted of anything when people talk of him molesting kids. I think he was just a victim of our culture. I wonder is Minotaur has any statues of him, I might pick one up! Great pics btw, the last two were awesome, what a great photoshoot! Oh and how the hell do you lean over that much without falling!? :|- Jake OOXOXO

I have put it in a box, along with the rest of my emotions.

PS. If there's a Lifelounge version of The View, may I please be Whoopi?
