The Australia Project

Cor blimey, she'll be right ya flamin' galah, etc Jan 27, 2010 at 11:51
So anyway, this was the brief:
The Australia Project is encouraging Australian creatives to explore and redefine clichéd national stereotypes in the hope of revealing a unique perspective on contemporary Australian culture.

We are seeking individual responses, personal opinions and social commentaries that best describe your view of Australia today. The emphasis is on YOU. What is YOUR opinion of our culture?

--
Pretty open, right? Sounds like a dream brief, right? Well, when you actually have to sit down and respond to it, you find yourself challenging your own stereotypes and opinions. Do I really think that way? Who are we anyway? Is my opinion normal? Are my beliefs shared?
Anyway, it was tougher than it looks.

Visit the website and look at all the responses they've had so far. There are some absolute rippers. Some odd ones. And my personal favorite from a graphic designer named Nick Lewis. If that thing isn't set in place for our new arrivals ASAP, I'm going to write a very stern letter to the government.

Was kind of hoping this would stimulate an intelligent discussion on who we are as a nation...
