One Small Step For Man - Apollo 11 Images
Four decades ago, 3 courageous American astronauts by the name of Neil Armstrong, Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin Jr and Michael Collins went where no man previous had ever dared to go. Launched from Earth on July 16, 1969 The Apollo 11 was the first manned space flight to land on the moon and is still probably the most memorable moment in space exploration that we as a species have ever experienced. Armstrong was the first to set foot on the powdery surface of our great moon and is responsible for the infamous line "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
Since it's global telecast, the moon landing has been surrounded by several conspiracy theories and many doubts have been raised over it's legitimacy. The conspiracy theorist claimed that with the US trailing behind the Soviets in the so called Space Race (the Soviets were the first to send man into space, and first to do a space walk) that NASA created the Moon landing as the final winning blow). They've all been pretty much discredited.
Whether you believe it or not, the images from the Apollo 11 landing, and the 2 and a half hours that man first walked on the moon are some of the most beautiful images of space travel you'll ever see. In honour of the 40th anniversary of this historical event we've put together a collection of these images from man's journey to the moon. Enjoy
