Death, war, rape, and murder – it’s pretty impossible to switch on the telly without the nightly news getting all doom and gloom on your arse. Sometimes, it can all just get a bit overwhelmingly depressing, repetitive, and completely devoid of individual artistic flair!
Luckily, the American news tabloids just got a little bit more interesting with a series of interpretive pieces from Art Happening. It’s not so much the ‘story’ behind these pieces that counts, as so much the materials and method that each is made from. Creator Phil Hansen’s forte is clearly in the art of cutting, pasting and general scrap-booking; with entire portraits comprised of one dollar notes and pictures of grotesquely pallid nipples.
Other items used in the creation of art-worthy-news include itsy-bitsy fake plastic flies, six thousand syringes, and a dead duck dipped in black paint (seriously). Phil also films the creation of each piece he undertakes, such as the one below in memory of Michael Jackson.
