Jeffrey Milstein aircraft photography

Jeffrey Milstein was obsessed with planes from as long as he could remember as a child, building and flying as many as he could afford. He became intimately familiar with them until he then got his pilots licence at the tender age of 17.

"In this portfolio I explore a typology of the varied cruciform shapes of jet aircraft flying precisely overhead as if frozen in space. I have decontextualized these highly detailed photographs to express the complexity and beauty of form. That these giant conglomerations of aluminium, can gracefully lift from earth is amazing. That they can return safely some hours later on another part of the globe is even more amazing. My aircraft photograph."

This just seems to be one of those books that you must own. The internet simply does not do it justice. Go here for more details and also to purchase his book and beautiful prints up to 155 x 155 cm.

Sorry guys, but they look good because planes are cool. The photographs themselves are just ok.

I think the concept is what makes it cool LB RN, that and yes, the planes are just awesome too. Great stuff :D - Jake OXOXO

"The photographs themselves are just ok"??? they're clear, sharp, well composed and bright in colour. from a technical point-of-view there great shots, documenting his chosen subject matter perfectly. and from a non-technical point-of-view, there straight up awsome shots.

I like them, I still look up in the sky to find them soaring through the clouds.

My turn "they're clear, sharp, well composed and bright in colour" I can't see any composition at all, they are all centered showing a plane landing or taking off or already in the sky (great). The guy left out the sky using a neutral background (what is ok, great - collage is cool) but there is still a blue fringe in some of the planes because of ambience, what is technically incorrect. If the colours look great is because someone designed and painted those planes. As I said it's quite easy to like those pictures because the theme is visually appealing, what makes you like them is the same reason that makes you look up at the sky when they pass by. G'Day.
