Four years ago Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins was an illustrator for Activision during the day (Tony Hawk, Spiderman) and running around Los Angeles with spray cans by night. That all changed with one painting – 'Pac-Man in Hospice'. Part of the initial I Am 8-bit art exhibit, it made a whole lot of art people go "oh, shit".
Since then, Simkins has ditched the day job and makes his living painting the sort of messed up, nightmarish monsters that usually come from eating 72 slices of cheese before bed. Owls, bunnies and deer may feature prominently, but none of them are very cute and cuddly.
